Interesting and well thought out. (Too bad, though this otherwise erudite writer doesn't know the difference between the verbs to 'affect' and 'to effect'. My foreign friends - all those suspect French, Germans, Dutch. etc. that Patrick Frost, above, contemptuously dismisses as 'foreign voters' know better English than that !)
Mr. Frost, just check any international polling organization on the Web if you want to know which elements or groups in foreign countries prefer Obama. It's all documented, consistently, even pervasively: ALL groups in ALL countries - with the obvious and self-explanatory exception of Israel - know that McCain and the Republicans represent the most uninformed, parochial, jingoistic elements of American society. It ain't rocket science, mate!

This was an interesting analysis, but it is very important to acknowledge that what France, Indonesia, Lebanon, etc. want for American leadership is not necessarily good for America itself. I also don't exactly hear a lot of clamoring for John Kerry, or for Al Gore, in today's political environment, especially here in the US. Americans may have wanted a liberal, more trustworthy leader to Replace Putin in Russia, but I don't think the Russian people are complaining too much. And where exactly is all the evidence that the world supports Obama over McCain anyway? And who exactly are these 'foreign voters? Academics? working class? poor? rich? The analysis was interesting, but it was based on awful lot of assumptions that can never be varified. The American historical record has shown that we have pretty good judgment when it comes to our political leaders, and definitely better than all these 'foreign voters' have had in their respected nations.

We live in a world of emotion. Because of such, people don't want to think about and then address unpleasant things. So, the masses want Obama. If Obama wins, America will move to the sidelines and probably won't answer that 3am phone call. The world will then yearn for leadership.
